About the Batizado

Once every year to two years we host a big event called a Batizado. We invite Capoeira Mestres and Instructors from Brazil and all over the world. It is a chance for new students to be officially welcomed into the group, a chance for older students to graduate to new levels and its a chance for the capoeira community to get together, to exchange ideas and to celebrate new beginnings. Its hard to describe the importance of the event. Its more than just a family reunion or graduation celebration. It is not just a spectator event or show. Its participatory and an engaging ritual that brings our community together. Its a continuation of traditions and an exploration into evolutions of the Afro Brazilian artform we practice.
